The Evil Sponge

As I was browsing the web aimlessly today, I came across an article that made me both sad and angry. The article was about how Christian Right Wing groups are now going to be targeting Sponge-Bob Square Pants as evil because he promotes homosexuality.
The article, found here: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2005/01/20/1106110881621.html?oneclick=true goes on to say that because Sponge Bob is/ was going to be a part of a teaching tolerance piece, it is not acceptable for "Christian" children and adults.
This is the type of stuff that gives Christians a bad name. The lets go out and save the world from itself and impose my views on everyone kind of Christian that gives the rest of us a bad name. I do NOT have a problem with homosexuality. I think that people who do are ignorant, especially if they call themselves Christian and and are promoting hatred in the name of "traditional family values." Traditional family values are total crap. They have only been the "Christian" tradition since the Victorian era.
If you read the Bible, you will find that Jesus didn't care about what we term today as the "family." He told people to leave their families and join his. To Him, the family was the broader group of people who followed him and believed as he did. He accepted EVERYONE!! Prostitutes, tax collectors, Gentiles. EVERYONE!
What the Right Wing today promote as Christian values are what they have been told are Christian values, not what Jesus actually advocated. I am basing this opinion on both my readings of the Bible and the book "Christianity and the Making of the Modern Family," by Rosemary Radford Ruether. Awesome book. I suggest everyone read it. Not just Christians, everyone who wants to trace how the way the modern view of family developed. Ok there is my rant for today. I am so looking forward to the end of Bush's administration. How dare they think to tell us all that we must live the same way as everyone else. This country was founded on our diversity and they try to claim that they are making these decisions based on history and the need to preserve America. What total Bull.

Sad

I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy. Christmas, Tim home, Grandpa, all in all many things to keep me from posting. And since no one reads this anyway, its not a big deal. My last post was about Dani dying. This post is about my grandpa dying; or rather, living. Yesterday was the funeral. It was beautiful. I cried a lot. And yet I feel better today. I had my Tim with me all day. I had the support of my family and was able to support them in return. I had my friends with me. And my grandpa is at peace. He was himself up to the day before he died. That is all that we asked for and we got it. So hopefully in the future, my blog won't be so sad. I've had about all the sadness I can handle for awhile.
